Lego

In early 2015, RTC, a fitout and branding specialist company, contacted us to create a bespoke lampshade for Lego. The brief was pretty straightforward: design yellow drum lampshades, measuring 1.1m in diameter, to complement a yellow coffer ceiling feature in Lego stores, effectively mimicking a Lego brick's underside. Given Lego's status as a global brand, meticulous documentation and verification were essential. The yellow shade needed to match the coffer's hue. Considerable research and testing went into selecting appropriate weight-rated suspension cables and fireproof fabric covering.

The lampshade's design underwent several iterations throughout development. Finding conventional frames inadequate for the task, we engineered an innovative frame design.
To facilitate worldwide shipping, we modified the frame to enable safe assembly so that non-specialists can easily assemble on location. With this in mind, our design team produced all required technical documentation and assembly guidelines that followed a visual-first approach and minimal text to accommodate global distribution.

Managing large-scale production of these specialised frames and lampshade components whilst maintaining regular business operations proved challenging. However, our engineering team continuously refined the manufacturing process, whilst our lampshade department implemented an all-hands approach for each incoming order. These Lego lampshades were shipped in containers to numerous international destinations, including China. The success of this project stemmed from our commitment to quality standards and reliable delivery schedules.
